Contact

Georgia custody questions usually need the office that controls the record. County jail bookings, GDC prison custody, federal prison records, ICE detention, VINE notices, and court cases are handled by different systems. Use the statewide routes below to decide where to verify custody, request a record, or follow a case after an arrest.

Georgia Inmate Population is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, change visitation status, or retrieve official booking records. For those actions, contact the sheriff's office, GDC, court, BOP, ICE, or other agency that controls the record.

Looking for an Inmate or a Record?

Georgia custody records are split across county jails, GDC state correctional custody, federal custody, immigration detention, VINE notification tools, and court systems. The right contact depends on the type of custody or record you need.

  • For someone in a county jail, start with the County Directory and use that county's sheriff or jail roster contact.
  • For local booking records, review inmate records and then contact the county that booked or holds the person.
  • For booking photos or roster entries, use jail rosters & mugshots and verify details with the jail before relying on them.
  • For charges, hearings, or filed criminal cases after arrest, use court records after an arrest and the county or court provider listed for that jurisdiction.
  • For a specific jail, prison, transitional center, federal facility, or ICE location, use the Facility Directory.
  • For a sentenced state prisoner or GDC custody question, use the Georgia Department of Corrections offender query and GDC records channels.
  • For federal custody, use the U.S. Bureau of Prisons locator; for immigration detention, use ICE ODLS; for custody notifications, use Georgia VINE.

Official Georgia Routes

These statewide resources are the main public starting points documented in the Georgia research. They are outside this site and are controlled by their own agencies or vendors.

Open Records Requests

Georgia public-records requests should go to the agency that maintains the record. GDC's open-records page cites the Georgia Open Records Act, O.C.G.A. 50-18-70 et seq., and directs GDC requests through its online portal. County jail booking records usually belong with the county sheriff or jail records office, while court files belong with the court or clerk that maintains the case.

  • For GDC offender or prison records, use the GDC Open Records Request page and describe the name, GDC ID if known, facility, date range, and record type.
  • For Georgia Open Records Act background and fee rules, review the Governor's open records explanation or the Attorney General's open government law resources.
  • For county jail records, use the county page, sheriff site, or jail records contact tied to the county that booked or holds the person.
  • For federal or immigration records, use BOP, DOJ, ICE, EOIR, or counsel channels as applicable rather than GDC or a county jail.

What We Cannot Handle

This site does not receive official Georgia jail records, operate the GDC locator, control VINE notices, process court filings, or answer for federal or immigration agencies. We cannot confirm whether a person is still in custody, calculate release, change a mugshot, remove a warrant, accept a bond payment, schedule a visit, or obtain a certified court or jail record.
